Exploring the Panek and connected Families
All that you’re about to look through on our site represents a coming together of nearly ten years of research via ancestry.com, the Morman genealogical databases & micro fiche, Buffalo & Erie County Library Grosvenor genealogical collections, Buffalo vital statistics records, Erie County Civil, mortgage & deed records, 23andMe ancestry DNA analysis, Transfiguration RC Church of Ropczyce, Poland historical registries, The Posnan Project data base, paid genealogical researchers in Poland, numerous old historical family photographs and funeral mass cards, and most significantly, international collaboration with newly discovered extended family connections in Canada, Poland and France.
Our site is structured to provide you a fairly detailed genealogical history of the Panek / Czajkowski / Bursztyn, (paternal side) and the Barlog / Barwicki, (maternal side) ancestral lineages through family trees, historical immigration documents, surname research, DNA ancestry research and old/new family photos. Through DNA analysis of certain family members, we have also endeavored to identify the geographical origins of our ancestors.

The “Miracle” Calculation
1 in 400 trillion (4 x 1014) to 1 in 400 quadrillion
“Most people who could ever exist will never be born, that’s not philosophy, that’s math. About 117 billion people (humans) had ever lived on earth. Sounds huge but it microscopic. Every human comes from a genetic lottery. Your parents alone could have produced millions of different versions of a child. Change one second, one cell, one heartbeat, and you disappear.
Now zoom out across history….wars erased blood lines, diseases ended families, famine, chance meetings that never happened, people who never met at all.
Biology allows for astronomically more possible humans than have ever lived. Not people who will exist, but people who could have existed. Entire civilizations worth of unrealized lives. Scientists who never discovered, artists who never created, stories that never started.
You exist because an absurd chain of coincidences survived everything trying to erase it. Most potential humans never crossed into reality. You did not because it was likely, but because the numbers briefly aligned and chose you.”
Brian Cox – Astro Physicist

Old Time is a-flying
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles today
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of Heaven, the sun,
The higher he’s a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run.
And nearer he’s to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
By Robert Herrick (1591 – 1674)
